Nine of Swords

If the Eight of Swords is anxiety, the Nine of Swords is depression. But the one ray of hope is this depression is also mostly self-imposed, like the anxiety of the Eight if Swords. The woman in the Nine of Swords sits upright in her bed, appearing to have just woken from a nightmare. She’s haunted by her own demons, with no relief even when she sleeps.

The poppies on her bedspread can indicate sleep like the poppies in the Wizard of Oz, or addiction like the poppies in opium.

The carvings on the bed indicate conflict and violence, so even the bed is no escape from turmoil. This could translate literally into sexual difficulties as well as the more traditional tarot meanings of this tarot card.
