The Tarot Suit of Cups

Something opens our wings. Something makes boredom and hurt disappear. Someone fills the cup in front of us: We taste only sacredness.

Rumi

If you’ve ever seen the film The Da Vinci Code, you know it makes a case that the Holy Grail is Mary Magdalene, with the chalice or cup representing the womb of a woman. That might be a great image to bear in mind when viewing the cups suit of tarot cards, because they have to do with many of the things that have been traditionally considered feminine qualities. Think along the lines of nurturing, relationships, emotions and intuition.

The cups relate to the things that you do or the decisions that you make that are based on what’s in your heart, not in your head. Keeping in line with The Da Vinci Code, you can actually envision the ace of cups as the holy Grail card, as it’s generally considered one of the most positive of the minor Arcana.
