IX – The Hermit Tarot Card

We all feel the urge to retreat from the world at times, but The Hermit tarot card represents a more serious or extended withdrawal to recuperate or tap into something within. This can be a dark time in our lives where we are physically and emotionally drained and seek refuge from the world.

And that’s okay to take a break, because this can also be a time to really look within and tap into something deep in our psyche to create a fresh perspective. A rebirth if you will, like the butterfly who cocoons and is reborn into a whole new being. It’s simply a matter of shutting out the noise of the world — all the media overload from internet and TV and cell phones — and looking for the answers within.

The Hermit is often pictured holding a lamp int he darkness, and this can be delving into the “deep night of the soul” from which we will emerge changed forever. Just remember that while you may be entering the darkness, you are the light and the answers you need lie within you.

“Who looks outside dreams; who looks inside wakes.”

Carl Jung
