IV – The Emperor Tarot Card

From the Divine Mother, we move on to the Divine Patriarch, The Emperor tarot card.  If you’re fan of astrology, think of the fourth month, April, and the sign associated with it, Aries. Also think masculine energy and a trailblazing spirit, as well as civilization and how mankind began to rule over nature and the emergence of a practical way of thinking over the mystical.

The Emperor signifies the beginning of governments and political civilization, and he’s the leader of this new brave world. In a metaphorical sense, he also represents the transition from childhood to adult. Frivolous things are put aside for the practical business of creating a structured world and family unit. With the introduction of civilization and structure, corruption and dogma may soon follow, but for now the Empire is young and full of ambition and energy. The Emperor is on top of the world, at the peak of his power and influence.

The Emperor can represent a difficult transition and the introduction of more responsibility and obligations. On the upside, that can also mean more stability, particularly financial stability, and this card can be very positive for business and career questions. But The Emperor should be wary of such a high perch, as that also means the potential for catastrophic fall. And while it may seem good to be enthroned in a culture, is The Emperor tarot card the freest of men, or the most enslaved?
