XVI – The Tower Tarot Card

With the Death card, we talked about how it wasn’t as scary as you might think. While everyone may have certain cards they dislike, The Tower tarot card is definitely one you should have on your list of least favorites. This is the card I dread in a Tarot reading.

If The Tower appears in a reading, you’ve likely been ignoring the warnings the Universe has been giving you about needed changes, and now, the choice is out of your hands, because change is coming and you aren’t going to like it. That doesn’t mean it isn’t necessary though, so try to salvage what you can from the ruins and take the opportunity of having nothing left to lose to redefine the path you are on.

Think of The Tower as the embodiment of Dabrowski’s theory of positive disintegration. This theory of psychological development focuses on psychological tension and anxiety as necessary for growth. This occurs during episodes of “positive disintegration.” In other words, when everything falls apart. Dabrowski believed that advanced development required the break-down of lower psychological structures through positive disintegration.

While that all sounds very good intellectually, it doesn’t feel so good when you are going through it. he losses represented by The Tower tarot card are necessary to clear the way for what you really need and your true path.

The Tower brings with it a swift and brutal fall, but a new opportunity that will change your life forever, as this is a huge crossroads. You just have to look for it during this painful catharsis, but a new dawn is coming.
