XV – The Devil Tarot Card

If you ignore the card of Temperance, and throw yourself into physical desires and material pursuits, The Devil tarot card may show up in your reading. In the Rider Waite deck, a couple is enslaved in chains at the foot of The Devil, but if you look closely, their chains are loose enough they could break free if they chose.

If The Hanged Man is giving up control for a spiritual gain, The Devil is giving up control for carnal and/or monetary gain. Like The Lovers card, it’s a choice, and The Devil card cautions you about making the wrong choice as the couple in this card. Because in the great journey of the tarot, if you fail to heed this last warning, you will be very sorry.

This is your last call, baby, to get your head on straight and let go of your ego, greed, and lust. Because if you follow The Devil, you’ll fall as hard as he did from heaven in the next card.

Remember how I said that Death is the most feared card in the tarot deck? And how it shouldn’t be? That’s because if you fail to heed all the warnings and make choices based solely on the earthly desires of The Devil tarot card, you will face a serious reckoning in the next step of the journey.

Don’t say you weren’t warned.
