Six of Pentacles

The Six of Pentacles is the third card of a particularly obvious progression in the tarot deck, where the Four of Pentacles starts out clinging and being too greedy and miserly, the Five of Pentacles shows losing everything, but the Six of Pentacles shows where to find the balance. In fact, the central figure in the traditional artwork for this card is holding a scale showing the balance.

Note that the central figure seems to be doing quite well for himself, but the key in this card is that he’s also giving to those who are less fortunate. This creates a great win-win situation — he showing compassion for the less fortunate in helping them get back on their feet which also creates great karma for the wealthy man so that he will continue reaping rewards and reaping what he sows. You have to give a little to get a little is perfectly illustrated in this card.

The Six of Pentacles is a particularly pertinent card in current times as a reminder to be compassionate to those who are struggling and less fortunate, rather than the rampant mean-spirited indifference and greed seen in so many wealthy people and large corporations now more than ever.
