Four of Pentacles

While it’s good to be careful with money and use it judiciously, when the Four of Pentacles appears in a spread, it often indicates being perhaps a bit too concerned with money. Or, perhaps, considerably more than a bit concerned with money and material things, which is to say someone could be on the path to being featured on the next episode of Hoarders. And that is not a pretty thing.

Looking at the traditional design of the Four of Pentacles, a man is squatting on a makeshift throne with pentacles or coins at his feet, at his crown, and is clutching one tightly to his chest like he’s about to go down with the ship and that’s his only life preserver.

This indication of being a bit on the miserly side also comes with an implication of being in a position of power, where the accumulated wealth could be directed at a greater good, but this person doesn’t want to share despite his good fortune. Just remember the more you give, the more you get, and vice versa. Because if you hold on too tightly, the next card in the progression of your material fortune could be the Five of Pentacles.
